Killer Z Performance
Racing the 4th Generation Camaro
There are many secrets of speed conserning the Camaro Z-28. I started with a 25th Anniversary Edition with a 5.7 litter V8, 700-R4 trans. 10 bolt 7.5 Disk brake rear with a 3.23 gear ratio. This settup is great for everyday use but slacks a little from the performance aspect. First I changed from the factery 2-bolt block to an aftermarket 4-bolt block to support the addition of a 400 stroker crank, 5.7 rods, and 10.5:1 forged pistons. Next I upgraded the trans with a late madel Corvette servo and bigger valve bodies. Then I moved on to the rear-end were the factoy gear was tossed for a Richmond 3.73. The factory posi was retained. This was all good for about a half second off the 1/4 mile, but still not enough. I then added Hooker headers and a 3-inch flowmaster exuast system. A K&N filter charger provided the air. Along with underdrive pulleys and Accel ignition the car was just about ready. I then topped off the project with an ajustable Nitrous Oxide kit from NOS jetted to 150 horsepower. This brought the car to a blistering 1/4 mile run at 11.20's @120mph. and a top speed of over 155mph.
